[Scam Alert] Impersonation of Doctors Registered with the Singapore Medical Council
25 May 2026
The Singapore Medical Council (SMC) has been alerted to scam cases involving individuals or groups impersonating doctors registered with SMC.
These individuals or groups have forged Certificates of Registration or electronic Practising Certificates (e-PCs) to falsely present themselves as SMC-registered doctors and use these documents as proof of credentials when offering medical services.
Under section 17 of the Medical Registration Act 1997, any unauthorised person who wilfully and falsely pretends to be a duly qualified medical practitioner is guilty of an offence and is liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $100,000, imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months, or both.
How to verify whether an individual is a registered medical practitioner with SMC
To verify whether an individual is a registered medical practitioner with SMC, members of the public may search for the person’s name and place of practice in SMC's online Register. Only registered doctors with a valid practising certificate will appear in the search results.

To search using a registered doctor’s MCR number, click “More Search Options”, enter the MCR number only, and click “Search”.
To search by name, enter the doctor’s full or partial name and click “Search”.
