Renewal of Practising Certificates for Registered Doctors

Fully and conditionally registered doctors whose Practising Certificate (PC) is expiring on 31 December 2025 can apply for renewal online via the Professional Registration System (PRS) from 2 September 2025 onwards.

Renewal Criteria

Doctors who wish to apply for renewal of PC for year 2026 must fulfil the following conditions:

  • Met the required Continuing Medical Education (CME) points during the validity period of your current PC; and

  • Voted in SMC Elections or paid the fine(s) for not voting.

 CME Points*

The CME points required for the following duration of practice are as follows:

 Doctors holding two-year PC

  • Obtained at least 50 CME points accumulated within your current PC validity period of which 20% or 10 points are based on each of your registered specialty and/or in Family Medicine; and 10% or 5 points shall be from Mandatory Medical Ethics CME (MME CME) core programmes.

Doctors holding one-year PC

  • Obtained at least 25 CME points accumulated within your current PC validity period of which 20% or 5 points are based on each of your registered specialty and/or in Family Medicine; and 10% or 3 points shall be from Mandatory Medical Ethics CME (MME CME) core programmes.

Online Submission

PC renewal application must be completed online via the PRS.

Please submit your application online at Login for Doctors & Providers using your SingPass and password, as well as the One-Time Password generated (OTP) via 2-Factor Authentication (2FA).

Important Deadlines

Please submit your application no later than 3 December 2025 as a non-appealable and non-refundable late application fee of $80 will be charged for all applications submitted after this date.

Please note that any applications submitted after 23 December 23:59 hours cannot be approved in time for 1 January 2026.

Please note that under Section 13 of the Medical Registration Act 1997 (MRA), you are not allowed to practise as a medical practitioner or do any act as a medical practitioner unless you are registered under this Act and have a valid PC. Doctors must not practise from 1 January 2026 if their PC renewal applications are not approved by 31 December 2025.

Notice of Renewal of PC

Since the year 2016, SMC has ceased sending out hardcopy notice of renewal of PC. You will be notified via email when your PC is due for renewal. As such, please ensure that your email address is updated in your PRS account.
